Cryptosporidium is present on nearly every farm. It enters the animal through contaminated feed and water and can lay dormant in manure and soil for up to 12 months. Crypto usually causes mild to severe diarrhoea (white/yellow/green, watery and often bloody).

The immune system and intestines of the calf are not fully developed for several months which is why it is imperative to increase calf immunity to improve calf survival and performance. Calves are born naïve and without any Maternal Derived Antibodies (MDA’s), that’s why it is imperative to ensure calves are given sufficient good quality colostrum within the first 2 hours of life. Following the 3Qs rule of thumb; Quality, Quantity & Quickly.
